What I can't get my head round is that when I started driving , you would have a service and oil change 3 times a year now , a small service once a year and a big one and oil change  every 2 years.

Fuels and oils are much better these days, most vehicles run on fully synthetic oils these days. Engines are also built to much better tolerances, so there is less wear on them meaning theres less crud running about inside them.
When was the last time you had your engine de-coked LOL just isnt needed these days, where as 40yrs ago you'd have to de-coke the head every 50k. A rebuild was needed at 100k, these days with decent servicing you'll get 250k out of an engine. One of my cars has 160k on it, same clutch, turbo and even exhaust Smile Gets an oil change twice a year.

Having said that I personally feel they push servicing times far to long just to sell vehicles, and bank on folks changing their vehicle before it comes an issue. MrsFurs vehicle is suppose to go for 20'000 on oil changes however thats only suppose to be possible if you use main squealer oil  Rolling Eyes
